This Dixieland Band are full-time professionals and some of the leading musicians in Trad Jazz. They have recorded extensively for TV and Film, including programmes and commercials for the BBC and Channel 4, recording at both Abbey Road & Pinewood Studios. Appearances on ‘The F Word’, CBeebies’ Zingzillas‘ ‘Big Brother TV advert’ and the recent ‘More Th>n Feel the Love’ commercial has helped raise the group’s profile. The band has performed for Her Majesty The Queen, Prince Charles, The Duke and Duchess of York, Princess Beatrice of York, Robert Smith (The Cure), Gordon Ramsay, Eddie Izzard, David Hasselhoff, Ray Winstone, Sir Ian Botham, Paul O’Grady, Cilla Black.

HISTORY OF THE DIXIELAND BAND
The first instance of Jazz music being called “Dixieland” was from a disc recording in 1917. However, at the time, the term referred to the band, not the genre. This new sound combined African American/New Orleans ragtime and Sicilian music. The music of Sicily was one of the many genres in the New Orleans music scene during the 1910s, alongside sanctified church music, brass band music and blues. Famous Dixieland Bands include the Original Dixieland Jass Band, Dukes of Dixieland and New Orleans Rhythm Kings.

The Dixieland 5, 6 & 7-piece bands now include the sound of a fantastic male singer, the perfect ensemble for those wanting the sophisticated sound of the jazz singer to the group. The band also offers music for dancing. In this case, use of the drums is quite important and so we would advise a minimum 4 piece line up consisting of 1 Horn, Banjo, Sousaphone, Drums. More front line instruments can be added to build up the sound.
They also offers a mobile option and can perform amongst guests and in different areas of the venue. A minimum 2 piece line up of 1 horn, Banjo, Sousaphone is advisable. More front line instruments can be added to create a larger more prominent sound.
The band also have ideal line ups for background music. i.e. 3-piece or 4-pieces offer perfect combinations where swapping the drums in the 4-piece for another horn is advisable. This choice is well suited to Wedding receptions.
For those on a budget but still wanting the ‘big’ sound, the 5-piece ensemble maintains the authentic sound of the Jazz as it uses 3 front line instruments. The 7-piece or 6-piece band has a large sound so depending on the size of the performance space, this is the perfect ensemble for creating a timeless impression.

It goes without saying that your playing was wonderful, the repertoire absolutely appropriate to the occasion, and that you all looked splendid in your immaculate uniforms. However, I must mention two things that particularly impressed me. Firstly, the trouble you took with our tiny guests will have left them all with lifelong memories of your band and our party. Secondly, as a wind-player myself, I was full of admiration for how softly you could play, and how there was no need for us to ask you to ‘keep it down’ when circumstances called for it.
