JAZZ PIANO
Jazz piano is based around a set of techniques, an umbrella term used for the variety a player will draw from when playing Jazz. The piano has been an integral part of the jazz idiom since its inception, in both solo and ensemble settings. Its takes up a multifaceted role due largely to the instrument’s combined melodic and harmonic capabilities meaning it can be used for varied effect throughout a Jazz piece.

Take Five – Paul Desmond I would like to thank you most warmly for providing us with the Jon Spanyol jazz
trio for the reception here last week. They were supremely professional and several

intrusive.
Charles De Chassiron, Royal Garden HotelCan I just say on behalf of all of our guests, how much we enjoyed your performance
last night. I know I didn’t want it to end. So many people commented on how much
they enjoyed the evening because of the music. We hope to be able to ask you to
perform again for us.”Catherine Tuke, Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining
“The event was a success and we were very happy with the band’s performance. We would like to book them for our next event.
Mital Shamji, City HallJust a note to say a BIG thank you to you for your wonderful playing over both days
of Helen and Dom’s wedding. You created such a great atmosphere and everyone
really enjoyed the beautiful background music to our celebrations. It was such a
lovely addition to a fabulous venue.
Judith, Mother of the Bride, Wedding Reception“Silhouettes” is a remarkably mature piece of work from a composer and
arranger who is still a graduate student. Bates’ pieces are rich in terms
of colour, texture, contrast and dynamics and their creator is well served
by the superb playing of a similarly youthful ensemble.”
The Jazz MannCharlie is a gifted pianist…he has the ability to create very rich and powerful textures that set off Pursglove’s solos to great effect.”
